Purpose of the catalogue
The TXHEA Public Domain Literature Library provides readers with a curated selection of public-domain texts, accompanied by editorial notes that highlight narrative features and thematic connections. The catalogue aims to facilitate discovery and informed reading, not to serve as a scholarly archive.
Scope and selection
The library includes 91 books, all sourced from Project Gutenberg and published before 1928. Selections are made based on editorial interest in narrative voice, period, and genre diversity. The collection is not exhaustive but represents a range of English-language fiction from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Source attribution
Every book record credits Project Gutenberg as the source. TXHEA Catalogue not altered the original texts; only formatting has been adjusted for web presentation. Translators, illustrators, and other contributors are listed where known.
Bibliographic records
Each record includes title, author(s), publisher, keywords, and a catalogue note. Keywords are drawn from Library of Congress subject headings. The catalogue note is an editorial observation based on reading excerpts, not a comprehensive review. It may comment on narrative style, pacing, or imagery.
Category assignment
Books are grouped into four categories: Exploration Survival Adventure Tales, Young Readers Enchanted Adventures, Science Fiction Utopias, and Psychological Domestic Love Stories. These are editorial groupings based on dominant themes and settings. Some books may fit multiple categories; the assignment reflects the primary emphasis of the excerpts examined.
Editorial reading context
Catalogue notes are written after reading selected excerpts from each book, not the full text in every case. Edition facts and text measurements
